The Addison Village Board this week unanimously approved giving $50,000 to the Suburban O’Hare Commission to block Chicago’s bid to expand O’Hare International Airport.
Trustees voted on the grant request without comment Monday. The request resulted from an emergency meeting of the commission’s member boards that Addison hosted July 19, said a village spokesman.
So far, eight member communities have approved donations to the commission’s warchest, ranging from Park Ridge’s $10,000 to Bensenville’s $250,000. The commission is seeking to collect $1.4 million.
Addison officials have not yet addressed whether they will act on a resolution tying a western access road into O’Hare to a ban on all future expansion at the airport.
Bensenville Village President John Geils and DuPage County Board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom drafted the resolution last month and have asked all municipalities in the county to approve it. Bensenville and Elmhurst are among local communities that have done so.
