Hazardous-material spills, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes–any number of things can force people and their pets rrom their homes on short notice. The Humane Society of the United States offers the following questions to check animal-evacutlation readiness.

– You run for the dog carrier and get the dog into the car. Do you have carriers for the cats?

– Your decide to evacuate to a motel. Does it take pets? Do you know where the local emergency shelter is for pets?

– One of your cats gets loose. Do you have photos and descriptions of your pets in your emergency kit?

– Did you remember to bring your dog’s medication?

– Do all your pets have collars and ID tags?
