Eleven score and five (225) years ago this week, the United States was born.
Patriotic people interested in ordering a flag from the U.S. Capitol should contact their U.S. senator or representative. The price of the flags varies by size and material, ranging from a 3-by-5-foot nylon flag for $7.50 up to a 5-by-8-foot cotton flag for $18.75. Add a $4.05 flag-flying fee for flags to be flown over the Capitol. Shipping and handling is $4 per flag whether or not they have flown. Orders should be placed a month or more before any desired flag-flying date (birthdays, graduations and retirements are popular).
Most Senate and House members’ Web sites have printable flag order forms. Visit www.senate.gov or www.house.gov to find your senator or representative. Chicago office phone numbers for Illinois’ U.S. senators are 312-353-4952 for Sen. Richard Durbin and 312-886-3506 for Sen. Peter Fitzgerald.
