Pet owners can get a microchip identifier inserted under the skin of their dog or cat for $10 on Saturday at the Lincolnshire Police Department, 1 Old Half Day Rd.

The tiny AVID Microchips, which have an identification number programmed into them, are encapsulated and injected under the skin of a pet.

The chip remains there for the life of the pet and provides permanent identification for a lost cat or dog.

The microchip clinic–hosted by Animal Control of the Lake County Health Department and the Lincolnshire Police Department–will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

The Lincolnshire Police Department will also conduct demonstrations on how animals are identified by passing a microchip reader over their skin where the chip was inserted.
