People’s Resource Center has received a $10,000 literacy grant from the Starbucks Foundation.
The community service organization will use the funds for books, materials and classroom space for its literacy programs, including English as a Second Language with emphasis on adult education and GED curriculums.
People’s Resource Center was one of five Chicago-area groups that shared in $50,000 in literacy grants awarded by the foundation.
Other recipients were Oak Park-based Literacy Volunteers of Western Cook County and Hull House Association, Links-to-Literacy and the Guild Complex, all of Chicago.
According to Mary Ellen Durbin, executive director of People’s Resource Center, Starbucks employees also have volunteered as tutors for the center.
