A Downers Grove man remained hospitalized Tuesday and was being evaluated for possible drug use after holding police at bay for nine hours outside his apartment Monday.
Downers Grove police were called to the apartment building in the 4900 block of Forest Avenue early Monday afternoon after a relative of the 19-year-old man asked officers to check on him. Police were told that, while the man probably did not possess any guns, he did have a sword that he had used to damage the apartment and to threaten people.

A SWAT team cordoned off the building, then tried to talk to the man from about 2 p.m. until he allowed police into his home at about 11 p.m. He was in the apartment alone.
Once inside, police said they had to subdue the man, who they said was making threats. He was struck with a rubber pellet fired by a SWAT team member.
The man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and was being evaluated for possible drug use, police said.
No criminal charges had been filed as of late Tuesday.
