OK, you have big-time cabin fever–and your cabin is looking more dismal every day.
May we suggest a virtual getaway that allows you to check in, out and around some of the world’s most fabulous homes, not to mention other buildings?
Your ticket: www.greatbuildings.com.
The site archives more than 800 structures from around the world and across history and allows you to search by building, place or architect (the list starts at Alvar Aalto and ends at Radoslav Zuk). Entries vary in their depth of information and availability of images but are likely to include fast facts on the building type and style; a more lengthy discussion of the project; and a handful of interior and exterior images or drawings. Using Design Workshop (accessed through the site), it is possible to download 3-D models.
Some of our favorite home sites: Antonio Gaudi’s Casa Batlo in Barcelona; Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye in Poissy, France; Emperor Shah Jahan’s Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
