Residents will have to wait another 18 months to get turn lanes on Fullerton Avenue in the village’s industrial section, the Village Board learned Tuesday.

Trustees approved a $219,457 contract with Transystem Corp. to provide site engineering for the project, which will widen Fullerton and add right and left turn lanes at intersections with Church, Lombard and Addison Roads.

Work should start in May 2002 and be completed by September 2002, said Assistant Village Manager John Berley.

“We would have liked to start sooner, but it will take that long to get approval from the granting agencies,” he said. The $1.65 million project is being funded by $1.1 million in state and federal grants.

The delayed construction schedule didn’t faze trustees. “Getting the grant money is well worth the wait,” said Trustee Sylvia Layne. “Having the extra turn lanes should speed traffic up throughout the industrial park.”

Addison will resurface Fullerton this summer and raise the culvert over Westwood Creek to prevent flooding on the road, Berley said.

The village will pay $500,000 of that project’s $1.5 million price tag, with the rest coming from state motor fuel tax funds.
