Advertising a health condition on your wrist with a medical alert bracelet can be embarrassing, especially for image-conscious teens. But that geeky bracelet might also be necessary to save a teen’s life in an emergency.

Enter Manuel Millman, owner of Shelle Jewelers. Millman, a longtime supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, has designed medical alert bracelets that are attractive and fun as well as functional. Besides their fashionable look, the bracelets retain the information health-care professionals need and are trained to look for in an emergency.

Customers may request them to be made out of silver, white gold, yellow gold or platinum and may add diamonds or gemstones. But this enhanced style doesn’t come cheap: Bracelet prices range from $250 to more than $1,000, depending on metals and stones ordered.
