When Robeson and Gage Park get together, it’s almost always an exciting game.

Tuesday afternoon’s game at Robeson was no exception as James Roberson buried a three-pointer with four seconds left to give the Raiders a 64-63 victory over Gage Park in the Public League Red Central and a season sweep of the Owls.

“All I was thinking about was spreading my fingers and hitting my shot,” Roberson said. “I knew it had to be me. I had done it to them once and I figured I had to do it again.”

Roberson, who finished with 18 points and 11 assists, led Robeson (14-11, 4-3) back from an 11-point deficit with 11 points in the fourth quarter.

The senior point guard also had a hand in the Raiders’ 65-62 double-overtime victory over Gage Park on Jan. 9. In that game, Roberson had 25 points, including six in the second overtime, and made a three-pointer that tied the game at the end of the first overtime.

“The same guy killed us again,” Gage Park coach Sterling Spencer said. “He’s a good ballplayer that always steps up.”

Senior forward Amir Major scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, including nine in the final quarter, as Robeson came back from a 49-38 deficit.

“[Major has] been playing well since he came off an ankle sprain early in the year,” Robeson coach Charles Redmond said. “He hit some big shots for us in the fourth quarter to keep us alive.”

“We’re capable of playing a lot better,” West Aurora coach Gordie Kirkman said. “But you have to give West Chicago some credit. They impressed us with their intensity.”
