No. 15 St. Patrick got a rude awakening Saturday when Elk Grove’s Mike Madden hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Grenadiers a 49-46 upset in a non-conference game.

On Friday night, St. Patrick trailed at halftime and struggled to an overtime win over St. Viator.

“Madden was gun-shy last year,” said Elk Grove coach Steve Messer, whose team improved to 10-8. “He had huge buckets in the game tonight.”

Madden finished with 15 points on three three-pointers to go with Eric McDonald’s 17 points and eight rebounds for the Grenadiers, who fought back from 22-8 and 27-14 deficits in the second and third quarters, respectively.

“Hanging tough and coming back when they were pummeling us early in the game was a key,” Messer said. “We always play hard defense. Tonight we converted on the other end. We had good offensive possessions.”

Anthony Scala scored 10 points to lead St. Patrick (13-3).

Batavia Night of Hoops: Fourth-ranked Crane cruised past St. Joseph 67-47 as Will Bynum and Tremel Gilot scored 11 points apiece. Lorenzo Thompson added 10 points for the Cougars (14-2), who took control after a 17-0 second-quarter run erased a 20-16 deficit.

“The Whitney Young game was a wakeup call,” Crane coach Anthony Longstreet said of his squad’s 71-53 defeat Wednesday night. “[Young] really handed it to us over there. We wanted to prove something tonight. We needed a game like this going into Farragut on Monday. We needed to build some confidence.”

Chris Hart and Chris Murphy each scored 14 points for St. Joseph (4-14).

Ryan Galant put in 19 points to go with nine rebounds as Benet downed Plainfield 55-46. Gavin Kubes and Tyler Rehm each scored 11 points for the Redwings (5-12). Brady Salter’s 18 points led Plainfield (7-9). . . . Geneva bested King 64-47 behind Jim Eddy’s 19 points. Jon Shafer and Sean McCurtain helped out with 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Vikings (16-2). David Easterling led King (4-11) with a game-high 20 points.

Downers Grove North 63, Hinsdale Central 48: Kyle Kleckner scored 27 points, 18 in the second half, as the No. 8 Trojans won in the West Suburban Silver. Eric Allen added 13 for Downers North (16-1, 6-0), which led by only four at halftime before stretching the lead to 12 after three quarters. GJ King scored 16 points to lead Hinsdale Central.

Evanston 57, Palatine 43: Anthony Lenoir poured in 27 points to go with eight rebounds as the No. 11 Wildkits cruised in a non-conference game. Scott Horne pitched in with 13 points for Evanston (13-3). Mack Trent’s 11 points led Palatine (3-15).

Bloom 72, Peoria Central 67 (OT): Joe Chapman poured in 24 points and had eight rebounds and three blocks to lead No. 12 Bloom to the non-conference win. Quentin Edwards forced the overtime for Central (10-7) with a three-pointer with five seconds left. Bloom (15-3) went on a 6-0 run in overtime to seal the win. Jammand Greenwood scored 19 points and Josh Argue added 16 for Bloom. Marcellus Summerville led Central with 17 points.

Proviso East 66, Willowbrook 31: Shannon Brown and Arthur Talley each scored 13 points to lead No. 18 Proviso East (13-3) in the West Suburban Gold rout. The Pirates led 20-9 midway through the second quarter and closed out the half on an 11-0 run to put the game away early. Willowbrook falls to 10-9.

Antioch 56, Waukegan 46: Eric White scored 13 points to lead Antioch to a non-conference win. Aaron Swopes scored a game-high 25 points to lead Waukegan.

Bartlett 72, St. Charles East 62: Donte Frazier scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to lift Bartlett in the Upstate Eight. With the game tied 48-48 to start the fourth quarter, Bartlett outscored the Saints 24-14 to seal the victory. Matt Stark chipped in with 12 points for the Hawks (12-8, 2-7), while Eric Regan had 13 points for St. Charles East (11-7, 5-3).

Chicago Christian 65, Luther South 48: Rudy Beezhold’s 21 points paced the Knights (8-12, 5-4) in the Private School League.

Glenbrook North 71, Sullivan 44: Sebastian Klosowiak and Eric Pipenhagen scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Glenbrook North (10-8) in the non-conference game. Chris Wilson led Sullivan (1-15) with 17 points.

Glenbrook South 63, Barrington 52: Casey Martin scored 20 points while Dave Gershenzon, Jetter Gibson and Joe DiFronzo each scored 11 to guide Glenbrook South (11-8). Scott Schmitz put in 16 points for Barrington (11-8).

Gordon Tech 83, St. Edward 64: The Rams (10-7) rolled behind Mike Lang’s 17 points and Julian McElroy’s 16 points and 14 assists. Joe Benoit had 22 points for St. Edward (3-15).

Loyola 56, Lake Forest 40: Colin Falls scored 21 points and Mike Vigione had 14 as the Ramblers (13-5) hung on for the non-conference win. Lake Forest went on an 18-5 run in the third to pull within one after trailing 30-16 at half.

“They came out after us in the third quarter,” Loyola coach John O’Loughlin said. “I told our guys to relax and play our game in the fourth quarter, which we did.”

Michael Liddy led Lake Forest (12-5) with 17 points.

Lyons 47, Glenbard West 28: The Lions (15-2, 5-1) rolled in the West Suburban Silver behind Cortez Forte’s 15 points and Jim Maley’s 11. Lyons broke the game open in the second quarter after holding Glenbard to one free throw and one field goal. Ryan Edwards scored nine points to lead Glenbard West (10-6, 2-4).

Morgan Park Academy 74, Mooseheart 52: Eric Kelly scored 36 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as the Warriors (12-8) won the non-conference rout.

Notre Dame 59, St. Ignatius 41: John Bowler scored 19 points and Will Schober added 16 to pace Notre Dame in the non-conference win.

Providence-St. Mel 60, Manley 59: Stanley Gaines scored 36 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had two steals to lead the Knights (10-10) in a come-from-behind non-conference win. Manley opened the game with an 11-0 run and led by 10 after the first quarter. Gaines hit two free throws with four seconds left to seal the win. Luther Head had 16 points and six rebounds for Manley (8-8).

St. Francis 53, Fenwick 50: Mike Henning netted 19 points to go with Matt Henning’s 16 to give the Spartans (12-5) the edge in a non-conference game. Jason Okrzesik’s 16 points led Fenwick (9-9).

York 72, Proviso West 67 (OT): Rashad McSwine was 6-of-8 from the line in the extra session and finished with 17 points to give the Dukes the edge in the West Suburban Silver.

Zion-Benton 81, Libertyville 70: Andre White and Quientonm Dennis scored 18 points apiece to lead the Zee-Bees (17-2).
