Anthony Scala can definitely knock down the three-point shot, but he isn’t too bad in the other facets of his game either.

Scala made six of St. Patrick’s nine three-pointers and scored 25 points overall as the No. 10 Shamrocks (11-1, 5-0) defeated Carmel 68-55 to stay in a tie atop the East Suburban Catholic.

Scala had 19 points in the first half to give St. Patrick a 39-25 lead and helped his team hold on with his defense.

“Not only is he the premier shooting guard in Chicago, he is just a good player,” St. Patrick coach Mike Bailey said. “He is defending better this year. His leadership skills have improved. He has just become a good all-around player. He is not just a three-point shooter.”

Carmel fought back to within 47-42 after three quarters, but the Shamrocks again took control behind junior Chris Hartman, who scored nine of his 15 in the final quarter.

Hartman also grabbed seven rebounds and Chris Mroz contributed 10 points and seven assists for St. Patrick.

With its ninth consecutive victory, St. Patrick stays tied with St. Viator, which defeated Notre Dame 70-59.

Brian Schlemm had 16 points and Sean Walker chipped in 12 points for Carmel (6-7, 2-3).
