A 36-year-old Ingleside man hit and killed by a car on Interstate Highway 94 near Waukegan Road might have been trying to flag down a passing driver, officials said.
James L. Bokan of the 100 block of Washington Street was driving north on the expressway at 10:17 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle and drove into a ditch on the east side of the road, according to Trooper Doug Whitmore of the Illinois State Police.
A passenger in Bokan’s vehicle told police Bokan walked onto the expressway, stood between two northbound lanes and tried to flag down a car, Whitmore said.
Whitmore said Bokan, who was wearing dark clothing, was hit by a 1992 Mercury Marquis.
Bokan was taken to Highland Park Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, according to Jim Wipper, Lake County chief deputy coroner.
