A chicken probably won’t walk up and lay an egg at your feet during the Green City Market’s Winter Pantry, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. But the food — root vegetables, apples, pears, cheese, maple syrup preserves, bacon and, yes, eggs — will be straight from local farms and almost that fresh. The celebration of organic and locally produced farm food also features 50 rotating Chicago chefs (including John Bubala of Thyme and Kelly Courtney of Mod) giving tips and tastings. (Plus: kids’ cooking workshops — with parents required.) The Pantry is open every third Sunday through May at the Cooking & Hospitality Institute of Chicago, 361 W. Chestnut Place. Free. 773-665-9615.
