North Chicago police on Monday were searching for clues in the shooting death of an 18-year-old man from Kenosha.
Ivan Hurtado of the 200 block of 56th Avenue was shot once in the chest at close range as he left a friend’s home in the 1300 block of Victoria Avenue in North Chicago, said North Chicago Police Cmdr. Tony Theis. The shooting occurred at 12:56 a.m. Saturday, he said.
Earlier in the evening, Hurtado had been with friends at a North Chicago residence, Theis said. He was shot once in the left side of the chest as he walked alone to his car, he said.
Hurtado was pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m. in Provena St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, said Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Jim Wipper.
Police suspect the shooting may be gang-related.
