Planners who advocate “green growth” maintain that one way to reduce traffic gridlock and society’s dependence on the automobile is to build more transit-oriented developments.
Such residential projects are located near public transportation, notably railroad stations.
One new development in this mode is Spring Avenue Station, a 55-unit condominium in downtown LaGrange.
Located across the street from a Metra commuter rail station, it is being built by the Gammonley Group.
The one-, two- and three-bedroom units range from 906 to 2,402 square feet in size and $163,080 to $451,360 in price. They have one to three baths.
More than 25 floor plans are available, including 9 penthouses.
Construction has begun on the first of two, five-story brick-and-stone buildings.
First occupancies are expected in November 2001, according to Carrie Gammonley, director of sales and marketing.
Construction on the second building will begin in 60 days, she said.

The nearly 1.5-acre site on Spring and Burlington Avenues in the western suburb once was a used car lot.
“The bulk of buyers so far have been empty-nesters and professionals who work downtown and commute on the train,” Gammonley said.
Also within walking distance are restaurants, movie theater, public library and shopping.
Amenities of the buildings will include private balcony, elevator, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, television monitored entry system and indoor heated parking.
The sales center is at 322 Burlington Ave. The Gammonley corporate office is located a block east of the construction site.
