It’s bound to be memorable: a condo model with a master bathroom that has a vanity with not just one, but two, curvy red sinks that appear to be undulating sculptures.
All those determined prospective home buyers who traipse through a couple dozen models over a weekend then wearily retrace their steps because they can’t remember what they saw the first time around are bound to remember the stunning red bowls in the model at the Village Green Condominiums in Lincolnshire. Love them or hate them, they’ll remember them because decorators of models rarely make such bold statements. They make other kinds of statements, often excess and overkill, but they’re not really adventuresome with a bathroom sink.

I’ve seen hundreds of models since House Hunter began nearly two years ago, but I’ve never seen a bathroom with a really red sink and certainly not this striking “vessel dolce vita” cast iron number in “roussillon red” that I first saw at Kohler’s exhibit during a national home builders show.
However, if those sinks were the only notable elements, this two-bedroom, two-bath model with 1,908 square feet (with an additional 84 square feet in two balconies) would be a flop.
But, it’s not. Neither is the first of the three four- and five-story buildings that eventually will have 108 units and neither is the setting for this Weiss Development community.
The structures, so far, are set back from the road. Their architecture with bays and recessed balconies is more attractive than many condo buildings, and some first-floor balconies are really porches with steps leading down and out of the building. Behind the buildings are two man-made ponds and beyond the condo property, Indian Creek meanders along.
The first building is up, nearly sold out and has some occupants; the second, across what will be a parking area, is under construction with delivery dates spread over the next year. The third building is slated for 2002 occupancy.
Building two, which will be have the future swimming pool and deck directly outside one of its side entrances, has nine floor plans.
The furnished model is an A plan, with a long formal foyer and an almost L-shaped combined living and dining room. An adjacent den has French doors that can open and extend the space for entertaining, especially since this den opens to a balcony. A good-sized kitchen (also with a balcony) partially opens to the dining area. The laundry is roomy. The master and second bedrooms, each with bathroom, are at opposite ends of the unit, nice for privacy. In fact, only two of the floor plans have bedrooms sharing a wall. The A units are base-priced from $347,900 to $377,900.
A number of elements seem to make this floor plan work, especially for a condo with under 2,000 square feet of indoor living space.
The foyer is angled and its large guest closet is out of the traffic path. The foyer leads into a dining area, with the kitchen to one side. Personally, I don’t like to walk into any home and either bump into a stairway or be in the middle of the dining room. In this particular model, the rather elaborate table and six chairs are imposing and also sit in the way of the traffic flow. The problem — or maybe just my problem — isn’t with the design plan but with the positioning of the furniture. The placement of the den — one of those multi-use spaces — is a real plus, as is the location of the bedrooms. Closet and storage space within the unit appears to be quite adequate. (But, who doesn’t always need more closets?) Each unit also gets a storage space and it’s on the same floor as the unit.
The second model (the sales office) is more straightforward and more typical but makes good use of its 1,450 square feet of living space (and, in ground-level units with this plan, the balcony has that walk-out stairway). These C units are base-priced from $246,600 to $266,200.
The foyer is short and straight, with the dining room directly to one side while the semi-open kitchen is on the other side. The living room, at 22 1/2 by 14 feet, leads to its balcony. There’s a master bedroom with good closets and a very large master bath just off the living room. On the opposite side is a somewhat smaller bedroom with just one closet but with a bay that seems to add more space and definitely adds more light.
