Police on Wednesday were investigating the death of a 36-year-old Waukegan man whose body was discovered in a back yard blocks from where he lived, officials said.

At 12:30 a.m. Monday, the fiance of David C. Duron, of the 200 block of Washington Street, reported him missing, according to Waukegan Police Capt. Don Johnson.

Duron’s body was found in a back yard in the 300 block of North County Street at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Johnson said. A resident discovered the victim when she opened her backdoor to let out her cat, he said.

Duron was found lying face down in the grass, Johnson said. A shirt believed to be his was found next to the body, he said. Duron’s wallet was missing.

An autopsy late Tuesday revealed that Duron died from a blow to the back of the head, according to Lake County Coroner Barbara Richardson, who also said that the trauma to the skull and brain is consistent with a fall.

Johnson said that the woman who found the body heard people speaking softly outside her home late Monday but did not hear a scuffle.

There are no porches, ledges or elevated areas where Duron’s body was found from which he might have fallen, Johnson said.

Police are hoping to talk to anyone who might have seen him the night he died, he said.
