A small business park that was previously cited with more than 80 building code violations received the Orland Park Planning Commission’s recommendation Tuesday for a special use permit for outdoor storage after the landowners spent three months cleaning the property.
In July, the commission denied the request by Orland Park Partnership Outdoor Storage, 13255 Southwest Highway, to construct an 8-foot chain-link fence with vinyl slates to provide a fenced-in area for tenants to store materials. On Tuesday, after receiving word from the village staff and the Orland Park Police Department that the property was nearly up to code, the commission granted the request.
The landowners have been trying to obtain a special use permit since the beginning of June. At that time, the code violations were brought to the village’s attention. About 20 semitrailers that were being used for storage by the industrial tenants were on the property.
The Orland Park police and the village Building Department cited the company, Orland Park Partnership, with warnings and citations for code violations for the trailers and not maintaining a detention pond, said Police Officer Ken Lynch.
Dorothy Asher, manager and owner of the company that leases to three tenants on the property, said she and her family have owned the property for 15 years and became aware of the violations only once the process for the special use permit began.
