Lake Forest rallied from a 2-1 deficit–with two unanswered goals–to upset No. 10 Carmel 3-2 in the Class AA Barrington soccer sectional quarterfinals.

Lake Forest (16-4-3) scored the game-winner with 2:30 left as Barrett Lowell put a loose ball in the net after a corner kick. David Mayhall scored the Scouts’ other two goals.

Carmel (16-5-2) jumped out to a 2-1 lead when the Corsairs scored on a corner kick midway thorough the second half.

“I think we held ourselves together,” Lake Forest coach Kevin Kullby said. “I took some players out to get them composed, then they went out there and [Mayhall] scored the second goal and tied it up for us.”

In other action at the Barrington sectional, Libertyville routed Lake Zurich 5-1.

Libertyville was the No. 4 seed, Lake Zurich (13-4-4) the No. 5–but the game got away from the visiting Bears early. Brad Purtell scored 83 seconds into the game on an assist from Nenanjia Bulic and scored again 13 minutes later.

Mike Sholts brought Lake Zurich to within a goal before halftime, but Libertyville went on a run late in a four-minute stretch during the second half when John Miksch scored twice and John Dwan added a fifth goal.

Blake Lunt had the winning penalty kick as Barrington (19-2-4) downed Highland Park 1-0.

Eisenhower sectional: Chris Radtke scored twice as Argo (16-2-2) eliminated Reavis 4-1.

Hersey sectional: Adan Salinas, Kevin Swanson and Josh Purse made penalty kicks as Conant (15-5-2) outscored Prospect 3-1 in the shootout for a 1-0 victory.

Niles West sectional: Will Huntington and Chris Hartemayer each scored twice as New Trier (17-2-3) defeated Maine West 5-1. Blair Kipnis scored the decisive penalty kick as Glenbrook North (10-11-2) beat Glenbrook South 2-1.

Plainfield sectional: Ned Grabavoy tallied four goals and an assist as Lincoln-Way (21-0-2) routed Bolingbrook 9-1.

Prairie Ridge sectional: Sean Trulzsch converted the decisive penalty kick as Antioch (12-7-3) edged Warren 1-0.

Shepard sectional: Kevin Marszalek tallied two goals as Sandburg (16-6-1) cruised past Shepard 7-0.

St. Charles East sectional: Preston Jones and Grant Markgraf each scored a goal as St. Charles East (17-4-2) edged Glenbard North 2-1. Adam Ruud scored for Glenbard (7-14-1). . . . Mike Czerwinski scored four goals as Batavia (17-5-1) defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 5-2. . . . Joe Segar scored two goals as Bartlett (19-4-1) downed Larkin 2-0.

Waubonsie Valley sectional: Adam Bernardi scored with 3:41 left in the second overtime as Waubonsie Valley (12-4-6) pulled out a 3-2 victory over West Aurora. Dan Mallow scored two goals early in the second half as Waubonsie took a 2-0 lead. John Chilcote and Tyler Johnson each responded with goals for West Aurora (12-5-2) in a five-minute span to force overtime. . . . John Arneth scored twice as Naperville Central (11-5-6) eliminated Lyons Township 3-0. . . . Bruce Conrad scored the winning goal in overtime as Downers Grove South (8-10-3) defeated Hinsdale Central 4-3.

Willowbrook sectional: Mike Corvo, Mark Eckerle, Matt Gollan and Scott Rauman all scored as Downers Grove North (18-3-1) shut out De La Salle 4-0.

Class A sectionals

Geneva sectional: Eric O’Reilly scored twice as Geneva (22-1-1) defeated Kaneland 4-0.

St. Joseph sectional: Luke Rojo had a hat trick and Ben Aguilar added two goals as Benet (16-0-4) romped past Elmwood Park 7-0. . . . Nick Fichera and Scott Matthews each tallied two goals and an assist as Wheaton Academy (21-2) downed Riverside-Brookfield 8-0.

St. Viator sectional: Chris Schneider’s three goals and Steve Chromik’s six assists lifted St. Viator (13-6-4) past Grant 11-0.
