Vernon Hills officials are encouraging residents to attend the next Community Planning Workshop to offer opinions on a plan for development along the U.S. Highway 45 and Illinois Highway 21 corridor.
Village staffers, local property and business owners, and area residents have been working since August to develop a master plan for the corridor, one of the largest areas of unplanned development in Vernon Hills.
“We are trying to plan for future development in a cooperative manner with property owners,” Assistant Village Manager John Kalmar said.
The third of what will likely be four workshops on the issue is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday in Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive.

At the meeting, staff members will review information presented in September. Participants will break into groups to develop plans for the corridor, about a mile north and 2 miles northwest of U.S. 45 and Illinois 21. The ideas will be presented to the entire group for review and discussion.
Kalmar said the village hopes to have a master development plan in place by Dec. 15.
