Six people were taken to Lake Forest Hospital Monday morning after a five-car accident on Sheridan Road in Lake Bluff that snarled traffic in the area for more than an hour, officials said.

A car traveling north on Sheridan Road north of Illinois Highway 137 crossed the center median and struck three southbound cars at about 7:45 a.m., according to Lake Bluff Police Chief Fred Day Sr.

A fifth southbound car crashed into the disabled cars, which were in the southbound lanes of Sheridan Road, Day said.

Ambulance crews from Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Knollwood, North Chicago and Libertyville responded, he said. None of the injuries was life-threatening, Day said.

All northbound and southbound lanes of Sheridan Road were closed at Illinois 137 for over an hour, Day said, and traffic was diverted west to Green Bay Road.

No one had been charged yet in the accident, Day said.
