Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I have family photos on the wall in the foyer and pictures sitting on the piano, on bookshelves and end tables. I have dozens of family portraits and pictures on the wall in the living room, but now I want to do something different. I love all the pictures of my kids and grandkids, but I think I have too many in too many places. Do you have any ideas?

It sounds like the walls in your living room and hall are overrun with family memorabilia and you’re not able to appreciate them the way you’d like to. Those special moments and faces caught on film should be seen and not crowded into spaces.

Think about dedicating one wall to family and placing a few photos throughout your home. Store some for a while to cut down on the number that you have out and begin rotating old ones with new ones or ones that haven’t been in view for a while.

If you want something else on your walls for a change, we have a few suggestions.

We discovered dozens of record albums and their covers from the 1920s to 1940s jazz era in our family basement and are planning to frame the more interesting covers to make a “jazzy” statement in our home. Restoration Hardware stores sell album frames, $26 for two and available in black or clear finish; 800-762-1005 or visit www.RestorationHardware.com.

Fabric and clothing also can be great wall art. Sheet music is another idea. Try an “oldie but goodie” written by Cole Porter in 1943: “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To.” This piece framed could work as a homey welcome to your home.
