Lake Forest officials said Tuesday that the prognosis is good for former Lake Forest Mayor Rhett Butler, who suffered a serious spinal injury in a motorcycle accident in Iowa over the weekend.
Butler, who served as mayor from 1993 until 1996, was injured Sunday when he swerved to avoid an animal on the road and crashed his motorcycle.
Butler underwent emergency spinal fusion surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago late Sunday.
On Tuesday, Butler was “resting well, breathing on his own and in good spirits,” said City Hall spokeswoman Rosemary Haack.
Doctors expect Butler to make a complete recovery, officials said.
