After two years of focusing on Lincoln-Way High School’s coming split into two separate high schools, the school’s citizens advisory committee is ready for a new task.
The volunteer citizens committee researches and discusses one question a year for the school board and presents recommendations at the end of the year.
Board President Christine Glatz last week suggested an assignment zeroing in on student achievement.
“Let’s take it to the next level if we can,” Glatz said.
Recognition for student achievements might be a good topic, Lincoln-Way East Principal Mike Gardner said.
“We could see what other schools are doing, what we could do better,” he suggested.
Supt. Lawrence Wyllie said a topic should be chosen by the next school board meeting Aug. 24, when two new committee members will be named.
In other business, the board learned that construction work at the Lincoln-Way Central Campus is virtually complete.
Construction manager Ron Price said work on the 50-classroom academic wing, the swimming pool and the fine arts classrooms is done. Finishing touches will be put on the auditorium next week, Price said.
Work on the 50-classroom academic wing on the East Campus in Frankfort is finished, and paving and site work will be completed next week. The swimming pool is to be finished by January.
