The struggling Cubs can recapture one exciting element of their magical 1998 season Monday at Wrigley Field.
Tenor David Flagg will sing the national anthem, just as he did to celebrate Independence Day at Wrigley in ’98.
Flagg, 70, is a retired Alameda County (Calif.) traffic hearing officer. Called the “Singing Judge” and the “Star Spangled Singer,” he has sung the anthem at San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants games, as well as at Wrigley.
Flagg’s patriotism was strengthened during World War II, when his father was captured on Wake Island.
“My dream is to inspire those who hear the national anthem to have more love for their country and the flag,” he said.
