As I read of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that prayer does not belong on public address systems at high school football games, even if students lead it, I became quite angry and concerned with the continual infringement of my rights as a Christian, as well as the hypocrisy of when we do and do not allow God in our public presence.

In 1890, Bishop John Ireland said at a convention of the National Education Association in St. Paul, “I will not impose upon [secularists] my religion, which is Christianity, but let them not impose upon me and my fellow Christians their religion, which is secularism . . . a very loud spoken and intolerant religion.”

It seems that more and more this intolerant religion of “secularism” is seeking to dictate what we can and cannot do. We have completely misinterpreted the constitutional understanding of the separation of church and state, and now are allowing this misinterpretation to control and shape the future of our nation.

At the same time we use God to swear truth in a courtroom and we continue to mock God by putting His name on our money.

It is time to stop this tide of America’s new religion, secularism, and it is time for a national debate on the correct interpretation of the separation of church and state.

Our nation’s zero-tolerance platform kicked God out of school. I believe it is time not only to stop pushing God out of our schools, but with the present realities of violence and racism, I believe it’s time for God to go back to our schools.
