Morris posted the American marathon record of 2 hours 9 minutes 32 seconds with a fourth-place finish in last year’s Chicago Marathon. Not since Jerry Lawson was second in Chicago and Alfredo Vigueras won in Los Angeles in 1996 had any U.S. man finished that high in a major international marathon.
The marathon will start and finish in Grant Park. The total purse is $450,000. Any American finishing in the top 10 earns double the placement award.
On the women’s side, former Olympian Gwyn Coogan heads a field of seven elite runners.
