The Village Board voted to waive some permit fees usually assessed on new buildings and passed an ordinance allowing the library to be positioned closer to the sidewalk.
Robin Ellis, planning and development administrator, said placing public buildings closer to the sidewalk is part of the pedestrian-friendly design envisioned for the New Lenox Commons, south of U.S. Highway 30 and north of Village Hall on Haven Avenue. Also planned are a veterans memorial and recreation center.
Trustees also approved the library site plan after recommending that the landscaping include a berm and that the parking lot lights be designed to not disturb nearby homeowners.
