A 42-year-old Mississippi man accused of striking and killing a pedestrian in Waukegan has been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said Thursday.
On Wednesday night, a witness spotted Erbie D. Allday, of Tupelo, driving north on Green Bay Road near Central Avenue, said Matthew Chancey, chief of felony review for the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.
The witness was driving behind Allday as he was weaving across Green Bay Road moments before jumping the center median and striking and killing Amado A. Sanchez, 42, of the 100 block of Washington Terrace, Waukegan, according to Lt. James Sroka of the Waukegan Police Department.
Sanchez was standing on the median waiting to cross the street.

According to the witness, who followed Allday and called police from his car, Allday ran a red light at Belvidere Street moments before hitting Sanchez, Sroka said.
After striking the victim, Allday’s car continued across the southbound lanes and crashed into a large planter in front of a restaurant at 50 S. Green Bay, Sroka said.
No one else was injured in the incident.
