ANNEXATION COULD OPEN DOOR FOR TARGET, KOHL’S, VILLAGE SAYS

Annexation of land at Wolf Road and U.S. Highway 30 could bring some national retailers to Mokena, officials said.

“We’re negotiating with both Target and Kohl’s,” Mayor Robert Chiszar said Monday. “We’re about ready to finish those negotiations.”

The Plum Grove area at the southwest corner of Wolf and U.S. 30 has drawn “significant interest,” Community Development Director Alan Zordan said. Annexing 32 acres and zoning the land for commercial use, with special uses for senior citizen and multifamily housing would yield enough space for the stores, he said.

A vote on the annexation proposal is expected within 30 days, the mayor said.
