New Lenox Township’s planned senior citizen apartment complex should be ready for occupancy in about a year and a half, Township Supervisor Guy Sell said last week.
Architects drawing the plans for the 24-unit building will be finished in about a month, Sell told the Township Board.
Meanwhile, work permits from Will County and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency have been secured, so contractors should be able to start putting in sewer and water lines later this month, Sell said. “We may see some heavy equipment out here soon,” he said.
Advertisements for construction bids should go out in July after the board has examined the architectural drawings, with a contract slated for award in August, he said.
Excavation work could then begin in the fall and building could begin in the spring, he said.
The project will be financed by proceeds of a $2.3 million alternative revenue bond issue approved by voters in March. The bonds are not expected to raise taxes because rental income from the housing will be earmarked to pay off the debt. Another piece of the financing, a $500,000 bank loan, is under discussion with officials of NLSB Bank, Sell said.
