Trustees have authorized engineering studies that will review traffic impact along two major arteries in Orland Park.
The village on Monday agreed to hire McDonough and Associates of Chicago to study La Grange Road from 135th Street to Interstate Highway 80, which may lead to the eventual widening of the road, as well as 143rd Street from La Grange Road to Wolf Road.
Heavy traffic patterns along 143rd have prompted the village to begin an engineering study. “We are taking the lead on this project because we think it needs to be widened sooner rather than later and we need to get the ball rolling,” Village Manager Richard Boehm said.
Seventy percent of the $414,585 cost of the study will be covered by a grant from the South Suburban Council of Mayors. The other 30 percent will be split between the state and the village.
The board also approved an agreement with the state for a study of congestion on La Grange from 135th Street to north of 179th Street. The study will be done by McDonough Engineering for $152,000. The state will reimburse the village for up to $70,000 of the cost. Boehm said the study has begun at 143rd and La Grange. As part of an agreement with Tinley Park, the village will act as the lead agency in an additional study of La Grange Road that will cover the stretch from 179th Street to I-80. The $126,230 study also will be done by McDonough and Associates. Boehm said that study will be included in the state’s engineering when the La Grange Road interchange at I-80 is reconstructed.
The studies will take from nine to 18 months, Boehm said.
