Lincoln-Way High School has received the full amount of a $15.9 million construction grant that will cut the cost for taxpayers who approved a $60 million building bond issue to about $44 million, according to Supt. Lawrence Wyllie.
“Our taxpayers are the winners on this deal,” Wyllie said.
The expansion, which is under way at the junior-senior Central Campus in New Lenox and the freshman-sophomore East Campus in Frankfort, will enlarge and remodel the buildings into two separate four-year schools, which will open in fall 2001.
In a related matter, construction manager Ron Price said most of the work on the Central Campus, including an academic wing containing 50 new classrooms and offices for the school’s pupil personnel services department, has been completed.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is due to inspect the new swimming pool, and mechanical work is under way at the new auditorium, Price said.
Workers on the East Campus are reaching a milestone, with the first piece of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment ready to be turned on, he said.
The swimming pool site has been excavated, and the academic wing on the East Campus will be useable this fall, he said.
