Get excited, gamers! Excitebike, the original NES game, finally received an upgrade — and Excitebike 64 ($60, N64) has all the right moves to make itself an instant classic.
This realistic motorcycle-racing game includes 20 levels, a track editor/creator, a stunt level and six bonus games. In the season mode, the further a racer advances, the more hidden tracks are unlocked.
To say that Excitebike 64 is challenging is an understatement. Before jumping right into the game, go through the entire tutorial mode. Not only will you learn all the moves you’ll need to stand a chance against the computer, you’ll also unlock the original Excitebike.
Excitebike 64’s just-average graphics and sounds are not fine enough to drool over, but in no way does this hamper its great game play. It boasts fun courses for single players and an intense multiplayer mode.
For a quality four-player racing game that will have your friends eating your dust, pick up Excitebike 64. But you may want to think twice about renting Excitebike; its steep learning curve doesn’t make for short-term play.
