New Lenox residents who want to see a village-owned park on land earmarked for a town home subdivision are likely to be disappointed.
“We are not in the park business,” Mayor Mike Smith said last week at a meeting of the Land Use and Development Committee called to discuss developer Mike Regan’s proposal to build Connamara Gardens across from Village Hall.
Buying and developing the land for a park could cost up to $2 million, Smith said.
It also could inspire more residents dissatisfied with development plans to buy properties and turn them into parks, Trustee Annette Bowden said.
