Orland Park is planning to team up with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to oversee a comprehensive study of Lake Sedgewick, a lake that was recently transformed into a scenic nature center with a boardwalk, fishing piers, boat docks and trails.
Village officials agreed recently to participate in the state’s Clean Lakes program, which will provide $84,850 of the cost of a two-year ecological study of the lake, its wetlands and wildlife, said Gary Major, director of the Park Department. Orland Park will pay $33,940, he said.
The lake was once a peat bog hidden in a patch of trees and unnoticed by passersby. The site is at the wooded southern edge of the 240-acre Centennial Park complex at 156th Street and West Avenue.
