After a six-month national search, officials of School District 181 have tapped an insider to head Hinsdale Middle School.

Edward Dulaney, principal at Prospect Elementary School, will move to the district’s middle school July 1. Though he has 24 years of experience as an elementary school principal, Dulaney has never headed a middle school or taught in one.

“Ed is an exceptional education leader and a quick study,” said school board President Ann Mueller. “This job is not going to be a stretch for him at all.”

Dulaney of Wheaton will replace Walter Kistenfeger, who has been the top administrator at Hinsdale Middle School since 1993. Kistenfeger will move to Clarendon Hills Middle School when it opens in the fall.

Dulaney, who served as principal at Prospect for one year, came to District 181 from Westdale Elementary School in Northlake.

Dulaney has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Blackburn University in Carlinville, Ill., and a master’s degree in education administration from Northern Illinois University.

Hinsdale Middle School is not the only DuPage school getting a new leader.

Last week, officials in Glen Ellyn Elementary School District 41 named two outsiders to head two schools.

Marilyn Finesilver was named principal at Hadley Junior High School. Finesilver, who serves as principal at Mannheim Middle School in Melrose Park, will replace Kenneth Stellon, who headed Hadley for 16 years.

Christopher Dransoff was tapped as principal for Lincoln Elementary School. Dransoff, who comes from Field Elementary School in Park Ridge, will take over for James Crabtree, who was a principal in the Glen Ellyn district for 17 years.

Both will take over July 1.

Finesilver has 21 years of experience as a school administrator. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate from National-Louis University.

Dransoff received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeastern Illinois University and a doctorate from Loyola University Chicago. He has 18 years of experience as a elementary school principal.
