Slightly higher food prices and a dress code are among the operational changes to be instituted this year at the Park District’s Sanctuary Golf Course.

At a recent meeting with representatives of ServiScape, the firm hired to run the golf course, park commissioners approved some pricing and policy changes suggested by the new management.

Max Barrick, vice president of ServiScape, said the food service operation has been upgraded by a subcontractor and some of the menu prices will be raised, with domestic beer selling for $2.50 a bottle, up from $2.25, and a hot dog with chips and cole slaw selling for $3, also up from $2.25.

“In general, you see a modest to significant increase in prices,” Barrick said. “What you don’t see is an increase in quality and quantity. It’s the world’s best hot dog.”

Commissioner Mike O’Neill said the Park District stands to gain 5 percent of the profits. “They’re coming in. They’re taking the risk. We’re guaranteed something,” O’Neill said.

Other changes recommended include making the $400 deposit charged for a permanent weekly tee time non-refundable.

“A permanent tee time is a commodity,” Peter Sinnott, president of ServiScape, said. “We’re not charging them a fee. They’re buying something. It delivers to you another $6,000 dead to the bottom line.”

Commissioners also agreed to establish a dress code prohibiting extremely casual apparel–such as short-shorts, sweat pants and halter tops–and recommending longer shorts or casual pants, shirts with collars and proper footwear. Wearing blue jeans is discouraged but not prohibited.
