Attorneys for Lincoln-Way High School District 210 will go to court next month seeking dismissal of a lawsuit filed by an Orland Park-based contractor, school officials said Monday.

Intrastate Piping and Controls Inc., which has a $4.8 million contract for mechanical ventilation, piping and equipment work, filed suit against the school district Feb. 14.

The contractor is seeking additional payment of $1.93 million to compensate for alleged difficulties that prevented workers from operating at maximum efficiency. Lincoln-Way officials said any “inefficiencies” resulted from site conditions that were disclosed to all contractors.

“That’s why we’re defending it so vigorously. It isn’t a case where they spent money out of their own pocket,” Todd Hayden, an attorney for the district, said Monday. Hayden estimated Intrastate has completed about 75 percent of the work.

The hearing is set for April 18 in Will County Circuit Court River Valley Justice Center in Joliet.

The Intrastate contract is one of many awarded for the school district’s $60 million expansion project, which includes work at both the Central Campus in New Lenox and the East Campus in Frankfort.

The schools are being enlarged and remodeled into separate four-year high schools.
