The owners of Marcus Cinema plan to add four new stadium-style auditoriums to the current 14-screen complex at 163rd Street and La Grange Road.
Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres Corp., a division of Marcus Corp., hopes to start construction this spring on the auditoriums, one of which will feature an Ultra View screen that is three times the size of a conventional screen, measuring three stories high and 75 feet wide, said company spokesman Carlo Petrick. Construction would be completed by Christmas, he said.
The proposed expansion has not yet been reviewed by the village, said Shirley Fazio, chairwoman of the Plan Commission.
There also are 10 screens at Loews Cineplex Theatre in the Orland Square shopping center, 151st Street and La Grange Road. A 16-screen theater has been proposed for a new shopping center at 143rd Street and La Grange Road.
