I agree with Leonard Pitts’ March 7, “Be careful whom your kid looks up to . . . it could be you.” It is all too common for many parents to quickly blame others when their child gets in trouble. Children are greatly influenced by the adults around them. Even with the fact that a significant number of marriages end in divorce, it is imperative that at least one parent take the responsibility to be the gatekeeper for the groundwork of love and moral guidance for the child from birth until the late teens. There is no excuse for a parent not to take responsibility for providing this basic foundation.
