A weeklong disaster relief trip is being planned for June by an informal ecumenical group of area volunteers with a probable destination of Owensboro, Ky.
In the group’s first trip two years ago, 35 members traveled to Grand Forks, N.D., to help rebuild 11 flood-damaged homes. Last year, a group of 17 repaired seven tornado-damaged homes in St. Peter, Minn.
An information and planning session for this year’s trip will be held 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln St., Batavia.
Owensboro was struck by a unusual winter tornado in January leaving behind 1,000 damaged homes.
The disaster relief group is assisted with their housing and meals by local church organizations. This year the group will be working with the United Methodist Committee on Relief in Owensboro. Call Jean Chevalier at 630-879-3104.
