The Mokena Elementary District 159 School Board agreed last week to add teaching positions for the upcoming school year.

Supt. Roger Reardon said the district will add one half-time and two full-time teachers at Mokena Junior High and one full-time teacher and one full-time specialized instructor at Mokena Elementary.

To deal with growing enrollment, the district is also planning to build a junior high school in the Grasmere area.

Voters will be asked March 21 to approve a $16.7 million bond issue to finance construction of the building.

In other business, the school board approved an agreement for dealing with at-risk preschoolers. A cooperative program will continue to work with children up to 3 years old, but area school districts in New Lenox, Manhattan, Mokena, Frankfort and Frankfort Square each will operate separate programs for 3- to 5-year-olds.
