Police are seeking witnesses to a two-vehicle crash Sunday that killed a 40-year-old Berwyn man, who was driving a motorcycle near West Main Street and Campton Hills Road.
Robert Mastny of the 2600 block of Clarence Avenue died shortly after he apparently swerved around a car that had been stopped in front of him in the westbound lane of West Main Street. The driver of the car, who left the scene, had been trying to turn west onto Campton Hills Road, according to David Kintz, a traffic safety officer with the St. Charles Police Department.
At about 9:30 a.m., the motorcyclist apparently passed the stopped car on the left, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Dodge Durango, Kintz said. Mastny, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, where he was pronounced dead, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The Dodge driver was not injured, police said
No citations have been issued, Kintz said, but police are hoping to hear from anyone who might have seen what happened.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kintz at 630-377-4435.
