Two men from Fox Lake were killed and a third remained in critical condition Monday after a single-car accident involving alcohol use over the weekend near Fox Lake, authorities said.
Jaime M. Reyes, 24, of Fox Lake, was driving a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am east on Rollins Road just east of Lake Shore Drive Sunday morning when he lost control of his vehicle at high speed, said Lt. Fred Heidecke of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle flipped onto its side, crossed the roadway and slammed into two large trees on the north side of the road, Heidecke said.
Two passengers in the front seat, brothers Almikar Albiter, 25, and Marcos Albiter, 23, of Fox Lake, were pronounced dead at the scene, Heidecke said.
Reyes, who allegedly had a blood-alcohol concentration of .13 percent, was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remained in critical condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Charges are being weighed against Reyes, according to Matthew Chancey, chief of felony review for the Lake County state’s attorney’s office.
Four passengers in the back seat were slightly injured, Heidecke said. Rosendo Benevides, 21, of Fox Lake, was listed in good condition Monday in Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, a hospital spokeswoman said. Saul Vargas, 19, of Fox Lake, was treated at Condell and released.
Rodrigo Flores, 17, and Bruno Pereira, 17, both of Fox Lake, were treated at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Reyes was the only occupant in the vehicle wearing a seat belt, Heidecke said.
