Mokena trustees Monday lifted Mokena’s ban on overnight street parking.
The removal of the ban, which was unenforceable in some older neighborhoods, is part of a revamped parking ordinance recommended by Police Chief Steve Pollak and passed by the Village Board.
Other changes to the parking ordinance, which was last revised in 1987, include limiting parking to residents only in some areas near neighborhood parks and a list of all areas where parking is prohibited or restricted.
In other business, Trustee John Mazzorana said some village regulations may have to be altered if mixed residential-commercial use is allowed in the downtown business area on Front Street.
Alan Zordan, community development director, said guidelines will be included in the coming revision of Mokena’s land use plan. “We’ll start those wheels turning shortly,” Zordan said.
