The husband of a sailor at Great Lakes Naval Training Center was being held in Lake County Jail on Tuesday for allegedly causing second-degree burns on the hands of the couple’s toddler.

Steven D. Moore, 31, of Great Lakes, was charged Monday night after personnel at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital alerted the police when he took his 22-month-old daughter to the facility for treatment of the burns, said Assistant Lake County State’s Atty. Matthew Chancey.

Moore, who was charged with aggravated battery against a child under 13, allegedly held the girl’s hands under scalding water Monday night, causing burns from her fingertips to her wrists, Chancey said.

The child was treated and released from the hospital Monday night.

Moore, a civilian whose wife is in training at the base, was being held on $50,000 bond.
