But 500 career wins looks the same no matter what the final statistics say, and the veteran Maine West coach couldn’t have been any more pleased once it was over.
“The Des Plaines community and the people who have played for me–those are the people who deserve this,” Kipp said moments after his squad presented him with a plaque and cake to commemorate the milestone. “It’s not for just me, it’s for my coaching staff and the kids throughout the 19 years I’ve been here that have put in so much time and effort.”
Maine West (23-10) appeared tense from the start, hitting only 2 of 13 shots from the floor in the opening period while the Bandits scored the first six points of the game.
Nerves seemed to hamper the Warriors throughout the contest, as they finished only 20 for 39 from the free-throw line and were unable to shake a pesky Resurrection squad until the final minutes.
Julie Just led Maine West with 21 points, while Linnea O’Neill added 10 points and seven rebounds. Corliss led Resurrection (9-18) with 14 points.

Illiana Christian: Luther South closed the third quarter and opened the fourth with a 13-1 run to take control in a 55-45 win over St. Scholastica. Janet Henry led South (16-11) with 31 points, inclunding five during the run, and 19 rebounds and Anna Rainey added 17 points.
Boys basketball
Thornwood 64, Rich South 52: Eddy Curry came off the bench to scored 22 points and grab eight rebounds as No. 8 Thornwood prevailed in the non-conference game.
Lincoln Park 73, Prosser 48: Aaron Carr mixed 39 points and 11 rebounds as the Lions (18-6, 10-0) clinched the Public Red North. Courtney Denson added 13 points and 14 rebounds for Lincoln Park, which played without forward Brandon Pruitt. Pruitt was arrested on charges of armed robbery in Skokie Saturday night.
