Two Chicagoans are among the 35 artists who have received 1999 awards from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation in New York. They are painter/photographer Gaylen Gerber and Helen Mirra, who created a variety of works from video stills to installations. Each has received a grant in the amount of $20,000. The biennial competition, which in 1999 had 360 nominees, is dedicated to honoring artistic creation that has not yet received widespread critical or commercial recognition.
